Many years passed after death of Light Yagami. That Shinigami asks Ryuk to tell his experience when he dropped his Death Note in Earh . Ryuk explains him the story in exchange of an apple.
So in this movie , the life of Light Yagami, after receiving the Death Note, is summarised by Ryuk ( in third person view of Ryuk).
This movie gives makes the audience think of new season of Death Note to be coming soon where the Light Yagami would be a Shinigami.
